Cat owners are easy to buy for and hard to surprise: they have the mugs and the tote bags already. A 3D print of their own cat is different. It's made from a photo you choose, so it's their cat's face, colouring and attitude, not a cartoon.

Good cat photos for printing
Cats are perfect subjects: still, photogenic and usually sitting in good light. A close-up with sharp eyes works best. Tabbies and cats with bold markings look lovely as filament paintings, white and pale cats glow beautifully as lithophanes, and fluffy long-haired cats show off their coat as a sculpted relief.

Choosing the photo
- Catch them still: asleep, sunbathing or watching something just off camera.
- Fill the frame with their face and keep the eyes sharp.
- Window light brings out fur and whiskers. Turn off the flash.
- Black cats print well as lithophanes. Brighten a dark photo a little in the studio.

- Yes, it's made from your photo, so their markings and expression come through. The free 3D preview shows exactly how it will look before you order.
- Which product suits a cat best?
- All three work. Lithophanes are lovely on a sunny windowsill, filament paintings bring out tabby and ginger colours, and sculpted reliefs show off fluffy coats. Try your photo in each in the studio.
- Does the lithophane come with a light?
- You can add our LED light stand at checkout, from £8. It holds the panel upright and lights it from behind with a warm white or colour-changing USB light, and it's printed in the colour you choose. Without the stand, a bright window or a lamp behind the panel works well too.
- How long does delivery take?
- We print every order in our Manchester workshop and post it within 5 working days. Tracked delivery usually takes 1 to 3 working days after that, and it's free on orders over £30.
